TCL 55Q651G: 55-inch QLED Google TV
The TCL 55Q651G is a 55-inch class 4K smart TV with a 60Hz native panel, 3 HDMI inputs and Google TV. Its viewable screen measures 54.6 inches diagonally. Quantum dot color is paired with a direct LED backlight.
Picture technology and 4K detail
The QLED screen uses quantum dots as part of its color system, with TCL's High Brightness+ Direct LED Backlight illuminating the LCD panel. The panel resolution is 3840 x 2160. A native 4K source can show fine textures, small objects and text across the screen, while lower-resolution sources depend more on the TV's processing and the quality of the recording. The TCL AIPQ Processor handles image processing. It can refine the incoming picture, but it cannot recover every detail absent from a low-quality source.
HDR formats and film viewing
Supported HDR formats include Dolby Vision, HDR10+, HDR10, HLG. These let the TV use the brightness and color information carried by compatible programs. HDR support is separate from resolution: a source may be 4K without being HDR, or use an HDR format that needs a compatible player and settings. Choose a supported HDR version of the program when available. Room lighting and the selected picture mode also affect how highlights, dark scenes and color appear on this screen.
Refresh rate and gaming
The native refresh rate for the 55Q651G is 60Hz. Game Accelerator 120 is a separate gaming mode; its refresh figure does not mean native 4K at that rate. Auto Game Mode supports low-latency use with compatible game sources. Motion-processing names should not be read as native panel refresh rates. Similarly, a game source's frame rate is separate from the TV's refresh rate. A console or computer, its cable and the selected input mode must support the signal being sent. This matters when choosing between a high-resolution picture and a faster gaming mode on compatible equipment.
Google TV and streaming
Google TV provides access to compatible streaming apps, including YouTube, Netflix, Prime Video and Disney+, subject to regional and app availability. Internet access and any required subscriptions are needed for those services. Use the available TV apps to access supported online content. The smart interface lets you find programs without connecting a separate streaming player, although an external player can still be used through HDMI. Google account setup may be required, and the selection of apps and programs can change over time.
HDMI, USB and network connections
The 3 HDMI inputs include one with eARC for audio return to a compatible audio system. USB connectivity is 1 USB 2.0. Wi-Fi 5 (802.11ac) provides wireless networking, and an Ethernet port offers a wired network option. The TV also has optical digital audio output and an RF input for a compatible broadcast feed. Keep the sound system's capabilities and the source's audio format in mind when deciding whether to use HDMI audio return or optical audio.
Built-in sound and controls
The built-in audio system is rated at 30W (2 x 15W). Dolby Atmos support is listed for compatible audio, with the result depending on the source and listening setup. The built-in sound lets you use the TV without adding a soundbar, while the audio outputs provide room to expand the system. Parental controls, an accessible menu system and a sleep timer are included. Closed captions are also supported. These controls help adapt everyday use to the household, whether the screen is used for a film, a live program or a connected game source.
Dimensions, weight and mounting
With its stand fitted, the 55Q651G measures 48.2 x 30.0 x 10.8 inches in width, height and depth. Without the stand, it measures 48.2 x 27.9 x 2.7 inches. The TV weighs 23.6 lb with the stand and 23.2 lb without it. The VESA mounting pattern is 300 x 300 mm. These measurements describe the TV itself, rather than its shipping box. Check the width and stand depth against the furniture, and choose mounting hardware rated for the panel's weight and hole pattern.
Viewing position and daily use
Viewing angle and room lighting can change the image seen from a side seat. The 55-inch class designation describes the screen diagonal, not the cabinet width. Consider the distance to the main seat, the height of the furniture and bright windows when choosing a position. The voice remote provides a way to navigate and search. Leave room to reach the ports and avoid bending connected cables sharply behind the screen.
